Inserting fields without the wizard

Word 2002

Isn't there a way to insert a field (from the merge data)
without having to go through the wizard every time. This
is silly. The merger toolbar only contains word's fields
for merging, but not the data fields.

Thanks a bunch.

The button for the data fields is not named (as in previous versions of
Word) - it is the one to the left of the "Insert Word Field" drop-down on
the toolbar. It is "modal", so it is a bit of a pain to use.

Thanks Peter.
Yes, it was exactly where you said it was. I'm not sure
how I missed it ... not like me. I haven't done a merge
for a couple of years ... must be rusty. Man, you are
rights ... is that ever irritating to use! I have to keep
closing and reopening that screen to insert merge fields
throughout the page. I ended up doing a copy/paste which
did work. Thanks again.

Graham,
Do you recall the "quick entry" screen for
adding/modifying records in previous word versions. Has
this been emilinated? I wanted to modify a record, but it
would seem that I can only see the data table. I can
select the records I want to merge, but I don't seem able
to make changes (other than opening the file in excel).

If you don't know, it's ok. I can work with what I have.
Thanks for your time and help.

This tool is only available if you connect to the Excel data file using the
Excel converter. Otherwise you use the 'Mail Merge Recipients' tool (or edit
in Excel)
Checkout the Excel data section in the link I posted earlier which explains
how to attain the different data connection methods.

Thanks Graham, I'll check it out.

By the way ... I just wanted to say that I visited your
site and enjoyed the trip.

It's clean-looking, easy to navigate and pleasant to
view. Your instructions are very clear - nicely done!.

I tried to send a "feedback" email from your main page,
but it puts some strangeness in the "to" field
that "fails" to deliver.

So .. you can just take the comments from this message.
Thanks for taking the time to put those instructions
together and making them available online to others.
Useful stuff!

Thanks for the kind comment on the web site.
I am puzzled about the difficulties you are having with the feedback link. I
have just tested it and it works fine for me. Can you copy what you find it
puts into the 'send to' box into a plain text message and post to the
address in my sig. block below.
