What you do mean "insert"? Insert where?

I guess (only a guess) you are talking about the field "filename"?

When you insert that field somewhere, on the dialog box press the
"Options..." button. Then press the tab "Field Specific Switches" to
turn on the \p switch (by pressing "add to field" button) which addes
the file system's path to the file name in the field.

You'll have to go back and add the \p switch to fields in existing
documents. it's not automatic.

Sorry, Still don't know what you want. What is "it" that you wish to
automate?

Again, just guessing: Does it work to put the file name field with \p
into the insertion point in the template document that when a new doc is
created based on the template, the field is there?

Hi via135,

So open the template and insert the FILENAME field into it. The field will then be added to any documents you create based on that
template.

This should work in Word too.

"Easily open Windows UNC paths in Entourage using WinShortcutter"

New Snow Leopard version:

To get the file path for a file location on your computer, use a service or
contextual menu (depending on what version of the OS you are using).
example:

/Library/Fonts/Microsoft/

Hope this helps!
