I have two .RTF documents that I am using in Word 2003,
Main.rtf and Footer.rtf. I am trying to insert Footer.rtf
into Main.rtf, as a linked file.
Footer.rtf file contains a scanned signature and two lines
of text. When I insert the file, I choose "Insert as Link".
If I alter Footer.rtf file, and then view Main.rtf, the
changes are not shown until I right click and
choose "Update Field".
If I open Main.rtf as text only, it is 159 pages long
despite the fact that it only contains a link to
Footer.rtf. The file size of Main.rtf is also unreasonably
large. It appears that Word is actually embedding the
document rather than linking to it.
How can I insert Footer.rtf and have it properly linked so
that any changes are automatically reflected and the file
size of Main.rtf remains reasonable.
Thanks
Mark
