Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.0 (Cheetah) am editing a word doc sent to me by another mac user w/ an older version of word. i have saved the document w/ doc extension rather than docx as her system does not recognize the x. i have inserted a footer on the first page including 1 of 18 page number. however i am unable to have this footer appear on pages 2-28. i am also unable to view the footer area on pages 2-28 to insert manually on those pages.

please help - many thanks

Before anyone can even begin to offer any suggestions on the issue I'm
afraid you'll first have to explain how you're running Office 2008 on OS X
Cheetah (10.0.x). If you somehow have managed to get Office 2008 installed
it would also be interesting to find out how you have managed to get it
launched... Failure is a virtual certainty ‹ Office 2008 (12.x.x) requires a
minimum OS X base of Tiger (10.4.9) or later.

If you truly have managed to do this I doubt there's much to be offered as
Office is in no way supported on that version of OS X. OTOH, if the specs
you've given are inaccurate please indicate exactly what versions of Office
& OS X you are using as well as the specific update levels of each. It would
also be helpful to know what version of Word was used to create the document
as well as a description of the document's structure.

cybertaz,

thank you for replying. please forgive me for checking an incorrect program. I reviewed the info packet and I am working with Mac OS X Leopard, version 10.5.6 w/ MS Office: Mac 2008 home & student edition.

Thanks again,

No forgiveness necessary :) but in order to help we need to know what we're
dealing with. Unfortunately, you still haven't indicated your specific
update level of Office 2008 so that's where to start. Make sure that Office
is fully updated -- 12.2.3 is current. Select Check for Updates from the
Help menu & proceed accordingly.

You're also 2 updates behind with OS X. According to your info you're at
10.5.6, but 10.5.8 is current. I'd suggest you tend to that as well.

If you continue to have the problem please supply the *details* about the
document requested in my previous reply. We also need to know exactly how
you're attempting to access the Footer on the second page, what's happening
when you try, etc. Again, we know nothing more about your situation than you
divulge & can't do anything but guess why your efforts aren't working if we
don't know what those efforts are. There's also a discrepancy in your first
post as to the number of pages in the document -- 18 or 28? Exactly where is
the problem occurring?

Turn on the non-printing characters (¶) so you can tell what has been done
in the document construction. I'm betting that a Section Break of some sort
has been used somewhere, but without more descriptive details that's nothing
more than a guess.
