Inserting foreign characters

I am using Word 2002 in XP.

Among my fonts I have some Greek and Hebrew fonts installed and they show up
among the fonts available to use. However, if I select a Hebrew font for
example and then type, what prints on the screen are Latin characters. I
can insert the Hebrew or Greek letters one at a time using the insert
symbols menu, but not by selecting them as a font.

Is there way to just select a non-Latin font and have it be inserted by
typing in Word?

You will need to change the language and keyboard for this. See the Input
Locales tab of Control Panel | Regional Options. Also see Word's Help under
"Enable editing of multiple languages," "Install system support for multiple
languages," and "About multilingual features in Office." These Help topics
are for Word 2003, which improves support for international features, so you
may not find quite the same thing in Word 2002.

Thanks Suzanne. That helped.

What I found out was that under my XP Home languages/details, I needed to
enable the "languages bar". That appears minimized in the taskbar and when
clicked on enables you to switch the keyboard default language. That
changes how the keys behave in Word and elsewhere.
