Inserting Freehand dawings into Word 2007

R

Ross Wilson

I've just upgraded from Office XP to office 2007
I've now lost access to the Drawing input - part of Language bar/handwriting
support in Office XP
This allowed me to draw freehand and then just say insert picture and it
would insert the picture into word XP for me

I assume MS just removed the support in Office 2007 - so I'm looking for a
way to replace it

Any suggestions

Are you using Windows XP or Vista?

Are you trying to draw using the mouse or using a drawing pad?

Can you describe the steps you would use in Word 2003?

Hi Ross,

MS did remove the write anywhere/draw anywhere features from Office 2007 that were provided in Office 2003 (in the box) and in
Office XP through a downloadable add-in. The features should be available from Windows if you're using the Windows Tablet PC
edition.

For alternatives, what input device are you using (pen, mouse, wacom tablet, etc.,) and what type of drawings/detail?

I use Windows XP and Word 2007
I used to use Windows XP and Word XP
In the language bar (with office XP installed ) you can click Freehand
drawing and then with a tablet/mouse draw something
Once finished I click insert drawing and its inserted into Word

As far as I can tell MS removed this support from Office 2007 and put it
into Vista instead - bit of a gotcha

I don't expect it to be fixed (why would MS remove a reason to upgrade )
I just want a work around

I use a Wacom tablet and its just sketches to send to others -
it was lots quicker than what I do now start paint drawing, copy and pasting

- I didn't realise it was a add-in for XP - I assume that its not compatible
with 2007?

You can now download the latest drivers from www.wacom.com.au under support
and downloads/driver downloads

I have the latest drivers - Microsoft removed the feature from Office 2007
which was present in Office XP and Office 2003

Its now - I think - inside Vista (ie the OS) rather than Office an
application - so more more people get it for free - except me of course

Hi Ross,

The Office XP add-in is looking for the Windows XP Tablet PC edition to work. If you have MS Windows XP Professional (not Home
edition) you may want to try the Tablet PC Recognizer pack (80mb download)from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306906
It includes the MS Recognizer engines for Write, Draw to see if that will turn on the 'ink' custom items when added to the Quick
Access toolbar in Word 2007. I didn't have a test machine available to try it yet :)

There are also 3rd party recognizers such as PenOffice from http://phatware.com that have trial editions available that you may want
to try if the Wacom tablet doesn't include its own drawing pad applet.
