inserting hyperlinks causes FP to freeze

After a year using Frontpage 2002 I'm still a dummy with a dilemma
that's surely been addressed before.

I've just finished 95% of my website...at long last. Just about all I
need to do now is make an index page where I insert hyperlinks. I
started out inserting hyperlinks a few months ago and thought I'd come
back to it when I was finished with everything else. I had no problems
inserting hyperlinks then. But now Frontpage freezes on me when I try
to insert hyperlinks. I have to hit ctrl+alt+del / end task and reopen
Frontpage.

My immediate reaction was that it was doing it because I have too many
files ( I have 7251 files in Frontpage, 4447 of which are picture
files. I need to insert 2770 hyperlinks on this one index page.) I
also would get low memory errors every now and then over the past few
months but I just clicked OK and the error message went away.

So do I have too many webs? Is it a low memory problem? Do I need to
delete any temp files? Or would uninstalling/reinstalling Frontpage do
the trick?

In regards to deleting temp files - I was taking advice from other
kind souls here posting responses to people with similar problems and
tried in their words the "usual repairs" - deleting all FP temp files,
all hidden *.web files, and the file CMDUI.PRF. I deleted CMDUI.PRF
and the Frontpage Temp Dir but there has been no change. Under FP I
also went to Tools | Web Settings | Advanced and clicked on the box
that says delete files under temporary files. I hate to sound like a
dummy but I'm frankly not sure how to find ALL other temp files or
hidden *.web files. Also they mentioned uninstalling FP Addins and
again I'm at a loss how to do that.

What I'm really tempted to do is uninstall/reinstall Frontpage but I'm
afraid to for one obvious reason: would I lose my work?

Can someone help me?

I would suggest to the original poster, that they split pages of more than
two screens in height into multiple page, as it sound like FP is running out
of memory space when additional links are trying to be added.

Also very few people are going to want to scroll down a page of that length
and the user may also have problem view a page with that much content.

And depending on the page & html source layout you may be exceeding the FP limit of ~32K line of html
