inserting line that runs between columns in a table

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi,
I want to insert a line (really an arrow) within one row that extends between more than one column in a table.

Along the top of the table I have months and I want to show than an activity begins in one month and extends for several months -- an arrow would be just the thing.

When I try to extend the line beyond the cell, it simply won't go any further.

Thanks,
Karen

There is no specific provision for that in Word. Your only option is to use
one of the arrow shapes from the Object Palette (View menu). Perhaps that's
what you're attempting to do, but if it's set to In Line With Text it will
be constrained within the cell in which you create it. Select the arrow then
use the Formatting Palette to change the Wrapping to In Front of Text or
Behind Text. You can also Control/Right-Click the arrow, select Format
AutoShape & set the wrapping there as well as other the formatting options.

Many thanks Bob -- exactly what I needed!
