Inserting Logos in letterhead

I really need help. I've been a WordPerfect user - until now. My employer
[State] insists I use Word [97/2000].

How do I insert two company logos into the company letterhead? I've managed
to copy the two logos [each about 1 1/4 sq in in size] onto the document.

The letterhead consists of a single top line of type with a double
underline. The company address is supposed to be centered between the two
logos [the logos residing at left and right side of page].

It seems the logos and the address are unwilling to share the same real
estate. When I move the logos into position, the address drops down [still
in center of page - but underneath the logos].

I'm sure it's simple - if you know what you're doing. I don't.

For this type of arrangement, your best bet may be a borderless table. You
need to be in the header to begin with, so View | Header and Footer before
inserting text or logos.

1. First make sure that each of the logos has In Line With Text wrapping:

a. In Word 2000, click on a graphic to display the Picture toolbar,
click on the Text Wrapping button (dog icon), and choose In Line With Text
from the menu. (If there's no Picture toolbar in Word 2000, see the
instructions for Word 97.)

b. In Word 97, right-click on the logo, choose Format Picture, and on
the Position tab clear the "Float over text" check box. You can also make
this choice in the Insert | Picture | From File dialog.

2. Insert a three-column, one-row table and remove the borders (Ctrl+Alt+U).

3. Put one logo in the left column and one in the right, text in the center.

4. You can add an underline to the text or a border to the table or cell
(Format | Borders and Shading).

Thank You Suzanne. I didn't do exactly as you directed - but, you put me
onto a track that got me there.

1. It never occurred to me to employ a header. So, I attempted to fix
'outside of being in a header.'

2. In Word 2000, I selected the Picture toolbar. I clicked on Text
Wrapping - and didn't see 'In Line with text.' I opted for 'Through Text.'
This worked perfectly!

3. In Word 97, I clicked on Format Object. On Position tab, I left 'float
over text' checked [otherwise, 'wrapping text tab' was inactive]. On
Wrapping tab, I selected 'Through Text.' Again, it worked perfectly!

Your letterhead belongs in a header. And yes, if you don't want to use a
table, you need the logos wrapped. "Through" is the equivalent of In Front
of Text in Word 2002 and 2003. This is okay if it works for you. Ordinarily
I would advise "Square" or "Tight" for logos.
