I have Powerpoint 2000 SR-1 (9.0.4527) running in Windows
2000. When I try to insert a .mov file in a Powerpoint
slide (by clicking Insert/ Movies & Sounds/ Movie from
file) I get an error message that says "Powerpoint
couldn't insert a movie from the selected file. Either
the file is non-standard, or QuickTime is not installed
properly."
However the file plays well in QuickTime, and the tech
support people at Apple tell me I have the program
(QuickTime Pro 6.0) correctly installed.
I suspect compression is the problem; I make these files
by importing an uncompressed .avi file into QTP and then
exporting it in a .mov format. In the process, QTP
applies some type of compression algorithm (which I want
to keep, because it's a very good algorithm for my
application) which might be causing Powerpoint to reject
the file as "non-standard". Assuming this is the problem,
can you tell me:
a) is there a way to get Windows Media Player to accept
this compression format?
b) if not, is there a way to get Powerpoint to open my
QuickTime reader when I insert a link to .mov files?
Thanks,
