inserting movies in 2007

I am trying to insert a movie into a presentation, and believe I am doing it
correctly, but it does not play, and shows only the black rectangle. I have
read the posts about that, have have tried it on a single monitor machine.
My first attempt was to insert a VOB file, no luck. I tried renaming it to
mpg, no luck. I converted the VOB to an avi, no luck. I've tried a file as
small as 7 megs, but will need to insert movies as large as 200 megs. Any
suggestions? I would like the movie to play automatically in the slide, as
that is the cleanest way for my presentation, but I am open to other
alternatives if this is not possible. Thanks for your help.

VOB is DVD video, usually a MPEG-2 or MPEG-4, but you can only insert MPEG-1
in PowerPoint. You can start it with an action button in a DVD-player
window.

How did you convert it to AVI? AVI can have various codecs, not all
compatible with PowerPoint. WMV (Windows Media Video) is a file format which
works well in PowerPoint. But any video file of this size may be problematic
in PowerPoint and will need a while until it starts.

Above file format, please make sure that the path to the files (presentation
and video) is not longer than 128 characters and that the file names contain
no spaces.

Thanks for the suggestion. I read through the tutorial, and learned a few
new things. There was nothing there though that seemed to be my answer.
However, I was able to get the movie to play in PPT in wmv format. Thanks
for your help.

** According to GSPot, my videos that did not play are MPEG-2, 720x480.

** Yes, I may have to go this route, depending on your responses to my next
questions.

** I used Xilisoft Video Converter 3.

** I used Xilisoft to convert it to wmv format, and it played, without a
noteable delay! Now, for some refinements.

1. My wmv was 340x240 in size, too small for my presentation, and resizing
it of course showed a loss of quality. Can you suggest another format that
will play in windows at my original resolution of 720x480 or close to that?

2. When inserted, the video had a black strip along the top and bottom. Is
there a way to get rid of this? If not, I think a work around would be to
put a black rectangle behind the movie, so that the black strip appears on
all four sides.

3. Is there a way to make the slide progress to the next slide at the movie
end without any action from the presenter?

Thanks for your help. It is fun learning new aspects of a software in my
attempt to resolve issues.
