Inserting music in powerpoint

I am using PowerPoint 2002 and attempting to insert music files into my
presentation. I go to "Insert, Sound from File" - I go to the folder where
my MP3s are stored and Powerpoint does not recognize them as "Sound Files."
I change the drop down box to "All Files" and attempt to insert it. I get an
error "Powerpoint couldn't insert a sound from the selected file."

I sent my presentation and a one of the MP3s to a friend, who had no trouble
inserting it. Any idea what's going on?
