Inserting Music into a PowerPoint (on a MacBook Pro)

Whenever I insert a song into a PowerPoint, it starts from the beginning. Is there any way to start from a certain point in the song, or to simply play a certain section?

It's definitely possible, but I think it requires some level of audio editing software. I've created whole "scores" synchronized to specific slides using software like Peak and Digital Performer. Those apps allow cutting and pasting of audio, and combining several audio tracks (like a soundtrack and a narration, for example) into a single stereo audio file, which can then easily be imported into PowerPoint. AIFF, WAV (uncompressed audio), or mp3 compressed all work well.
Alternatively, if you have some way of playing your song into a digital recorder of some sort, you could simply start the recording at the desired point. Then import the resulting audio file into PowerPoint.
