Inserting objetcs in emails - no icons

Good day,

I was wondering if this is happening to anyone else: for a time now, when
inserting links as objects in an email or other Outlook item, the object's
icon is not displayed (although selected); only the name of the file displays.

Why would that be?

Windows XP, 2003.
