Inserting picture

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

When I try to insert a picture into a word document I only have a empty square. I have tried various pictures with no effect.Is Word 2004 compatible with Leopard

In Word | Preferences | View, make sure "drawings" is checked and "image
placeholders" is NOT checked.
