Inserting pictures Slows down Word

When I insert a Color Photo in Word 2X2 High Color, Word immediately becomes
very sluggish. I crop them down to the smallest size to retain purpose, I
used Picture Place holders tried other options. I've had this issue before
and I did something and didn't have the problem after that, but I can't
remember what it was! It was Really slow and I did something in Tools
/Options and got all my speed back, but I don't remember what I did that
Fixed the problem. Using a Casio Exilm Digital Camera 7.2 MP's YIKES!
Thanks in advance. It was some simple little thing I did to fix it. But
Just forgot what that little thing was!! Call 1-800-976-WHAAAAAAAA

To determine if your activity is forcing the computer to use the swap
file look to see if there is hard drive activity when the application
slows down. If such is the case there may be a potential of relief in
adding memory to the computer.

There's significant difference between cropping a picture and resizing
it. For including pictures in a printed document you can greatly reduce
the memory requirements of a picture by reducing its resolution with a
moderately powerful photo editing application (sometimes included with
digital cameras, multipurpose peripherals and scanners). The lower photo
resolution greatly speeds any operation the computer performs while you
edit the document. For most purposes, especially if only meant to be
displayed on a computer display, photos don't need anywhere near the
resolution you would want for an framed 8 X 10 portrait.
