Inserting Pictures

I have some 512 x 512 jpeg files that contain grey level images as
well as text. The text appears sharp in Photoshop. When I use Insert -
Picture -> From File in Powerpoint (or Word) the text appears
slightly blurred. I have also tried all the options with Copy and
Paste Special with the same results.

I tried saving the picture file in gif format in Photoshop, and then
it looked fine when inserted into Word but still looked blurred when
inserted into Powerpoint. I also tried saving as bmp with no success.

I think this has something to do with Powerpoint resampling the image,
as the single-pixel wide text is now spread out over more pixels and I
think once when playing around with the Size tab in Format Picture
that I happened by luck to find just the right size that made the text
look sharp again.

Any suggestions as to how I should put the picture into Powerpoint
without and degradation, or are there any settings/options in
Powerpoint that I can adjust?

Thanks.

I think this has something to do with Powerpoint resampling the image,
you're spot on the money

see
MUSHY/BLURRY GRAPHICS in PowerPoint
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00065.htm

and
What's the best resolution for images in PowerPoint screen shows?
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00415.htm

and care of 'John - technologytrish.co.uk'

Right click the pasted image > size and position
Tick Best scale for slide show
Make sure that the resolution is correct (1024x768?)
Close

It appears in my case that only the last suggestion works - using Best
Scale for Slide Show.

Just wondering, if you have a lot of pictures to insert, whether this
can be done globally somehow, or at least the default can be that the
Best Scale for Slide Show box is checked and the desired resolution is
already selected (default is at 640 x 480 and my display is 1280 x
1024).

Thanks.
