Inserting Rows

I followed the directions on the discontinued thread for inserting rows and getting the error message about moving objects off the sheet. It still does not work. I have no "objects" on the sheet; I have some merged cells, but not below where I want to insert a row.
How can I resolve this?

I don't think merged cells matter here, but you ought to get out of the
habit of using them. Anyway, what happens when you press control-end? What
cell is selected?
If it is way down near the bottom of the sheet, then something n that row
contains a value (even a space character), or is referenced by a formula,
and the reference can not expand.
