inserting scanner images in word 2000

I am using Windows 98 and Office 2000. When I try to insert a picture from a
scanner (TWAIN compliant) I receive an error saying I can't. This happens in
Word and Excel. It works OK in Publisher. I have gone to the Microsoft
knowledge base and it says to try Custom Insert instead of Insert. I don't
have a Custom Insert option. WHY? Also, in ADOBE Photoshop the import from
scanner function works OK.

Hi Steve,

Word 2000 was the first Word verison to support
direct TWAIN insert of graphics, prior to that it
would basically call MS Office Photo Editor, which
in the 2000 version is still an option for folks who
may not have an advanced graphics app such as Photoshop.

In Word, the 'Custom Insert' should be a button on the
dialog that comes up in the 'select a device' screen
of Insert=>Picture=>From Scanner or Camera
