Inserting symbols

Whenever I try to insert a symbol at any point in my word
document, it shuts down with no explanation. I have sent
the error report and the only resolution it gives is to
download the security patches. I have done that. It is
not the problem. This is the only problem I have with
word and there is not KB article on it.

PLEASE HELP!

Problems with the Symbol dialog (or Print, Style, Font, Page Setup, etc.)
often point to a damaged printer driver. Try deleting and reinstalling the
printer.
