I am having problems trying to insert a text box above a table. I want to add a title to my table but in a seperate text box above the table, as soon as I draw the text box and release the cursor, it automatically jumps onto my table. When i try to move it off, even although the handles are there nothing happens.

Any assistance appreciated.

Hello ________ -

Is your table at the top of a page? Or is there empty space between the
table & the text above it?

All objects are attached to paragraphs (in either of 2 ways) so if the table
represents the closest available paragraph the text box will attach itself
to it. Leave the text box selected & change its Text Wrapping to something
other than In Line with Text. It will allow you to freely position the text
box but it still won't move the table out of the way.

Better yet, why not save some grief & aggravation by using the top row of
the table itself for the title? Using the available features [such as
merging cells, adjusting row height, setting vertical as well as horizontal
alignment, modifying Borders & Shading. Etc.] will produce a much more
effective result with less effort.

You need to place a paragraph mark above the table that the text box can
anchor to.

Click in the first cell of the table and use Table>Split Table to place a
paragraph mark above it.

Then you will be able to anchor the text box to that, and then it will work
:)

If you have to do a lot of this, I think you might find that it is a lot
easier to use a row of merged cells in the first row of the table. That
way, it's a lot easier to control what happens if you hit a page turnover in
the middle of the table: you can cause the "Title" row to repeat at the top
of each page.

Table>Heading Rows Repeat will repeat more than one row.

Cheers
