inserting Thumbnail into Word doc

I'm trying to insert a thumbnail of a document for readers to reference if
they want more information on a subject. I do not want to insert a
hyperlink. If I insert a object/file I get all of the text of the document
inserted.

First make an image of the document - open the document for editing,
then press Alt+PrtScn
Open your favourite graphics program and paste.

You now have a full size image of the document.
Use the graphic editor to resize the image to thumbnail size and save.
If this is for a web page save as a .jpg

The thumbnail can now be inserted into the web page, or (as your subject
suggests) into your Word document.

This is a working solution for today, but sometimes these documents can be
pages long. a JPEG is not a long term solution

You will have to specify exactly what you are trying to do. A thumbnail
is a picture - it can only be a picture of what can be seen on the
screen, though there are screen capture programs that will capture the
entire document in an image - but the resulting image may be huge.

Perhaps you want a précis or description of the document? In that case
you would have to write it yourself.

If the thumbnail is to go in a Word document (as opposed to web page)
you may get better answers by posting the question in a forum or
newsgroup that deals with Word, rather than this FrontPage newsgroup
which is for web site editing.

If you want a summary of a longer document, perhaps you just need to
copy/paste the first paragraph of that document and put it where you want
it - on a summary précis type page.

However, you will still need a hyperlink to let the user "jump to" the full
document - which would require a hyperlink.
