inserting .tif files

I have a recurring problem inserting .tif files into Office X
application doc's and ppt's. They insert as blank space.

In the past, I'd worked with MS Tech Support - and what had worked for
a while was to trash the PDFMaker files that are placed into the
Office>Startup folder of each app. This worked for a while, then needed
to be repeated.

This no longer works.

I'm running OS 10.2.8, Office v.X, Acrobat Pro 6.0 (which makes the
PDFMaker files?) and .tif files come from e.g., Illustrator 10.

Any suggestions? Known fixes or work-arounds?

In each of the individual startup folder, trash the PDFMaker startup
items and create a folder with the exact same name instead (including
the extension).
Next time Acrobat launches, it will be tricked into believeing the files
are there and don't need to be reinstalled.

Thanks for your quick reply. I've tried folders (and files) with the
same names to no avail. Acrobat was fooled by the folders but I still
was unable to insert .tif files (except as blank space).

Any other suggestions?

Take a look at Word>Preferences>View, make sure there is no check in the box
for Image Placeholders.

Box ok.

Have noticed that those .tif files saved when it was working can still
be inserted (and also see their thumbnail in Choose Picture window).
New ones saved (e.g. via Illustrator 10) don't show up as thumbmail
(and Insert in toolbar remains highlighted - but nothing more happens).

Any clues here?

Interesting... Any chance they could be multi-layer TIFF images with
alpha channel ???
Can you try flatenning the image and import it in Word ??

Are these 'newer' TIFFs by any chance CMYK higher than 24-bit? If so,
that may very well be the problem... Office apps can't handle more than
24-bit RGB.
