My friend is running a Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 98. He having huge problems with the computer inexplicably crashing all the time. In the end, he reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled his software again. He uses Office 2000.
The crashing has stopped, but he has now noticed that a problem with insertion point disappearing when working in Word 2000. He'll type some text into a document, and then might stop for a few minutes, perhaps to think or look up some references. He then begins to type again, but realises that nothing is appearing on screen. The insertion point has disappeared. He has to click into the document to reset the insertion point and he can begin again.
Understandly - this is getting annoying.
He never had this problem before he formatted his hard drive. He uses the mousepad on his laptop, rather than plugging in a normal mouse - would this have anything to do with it?
Anyone got any ideas for reasons it might be doing this?
Thanks.
