Instalation Problems

S

Sue McKeating

I hope someone can help me. I have just installed Office
97 onto a PC that originally had WIndows NT loaded. I
have re-formatted the hard disk, loaded Windows98 and then
Office97, but when I try to open Word, or Excel I get the
following error message.

This application must be installed to run. Please run
setup from where you originally installed the application.

Any ideas??

Kind Regards

Sue

Hello Sue,

This error usually happens if some of the Office files or registry keys are
corrupted. Did you by any chance have Norton installed and running on the
system at the time of the install? Norton installs a file named
Officeav.dll that often corrupts the Office install. If this is the case
the best bet is to search for and delete the file Officeav.dll and then
disable Norton. Then uninstall Office and do a clean install. You might
also want to close any un-necessary applications running in the task pane
prior to the installation. If you're not running Norton you may want to
attempt the same process without the Norton specific steps. Another step
you may want to try is to install Office to a different folder.

Hope this helps

Bobby
