install custom 2003 stencils

greg

hello,
I have aquestion about installing custom 2003 stencils. Before 2003 you
could just create a dir under your Visio\Solutions\ area, and put your
stencils in there. Now what do you do? I cannot find any help on this.
we have a custom install program (not MS installer or installshield, etc...)
that we need to use.

Is there an easy way to put custom stencils for visio 2003?

thanks in advance

Thank you for the help.
Why so complicated? Why did they change the deployment strategy?
Do you know if there an easer way?

thanks in advance

You can still use the file paths for templates and stencils (it doesn't work
for help files).
So if you create a "C:\Program Files\My Company\My Solution" folder, you can
add "C:\Program Files\My Company" to Tools \ Options \ Advanced \ File Paths
and you stencils and templates will appear under "My Solution" in Visio.

The file paths registry entries no longer exist by default, so you
installation will need to creat them if they don't exist.

The new Windows Installer Database method makes it easir to control
different language versions, and brings Visio in line with the rest of
Office.

David is correct. You need to explicitly declare the file path for Visio to
look in now. Previously you could just put your items into the same folder
as the shipping Visio content, but Visio no longer performs a directory
search for its own content. Beyond the language benefits, you should no
longer experience a big delay when opening the File or Tools menus.

Hi Greg,

Please follow the steps for adding the stencils and the templates to a custom folder:

1. Copy the stencils and the templates to a custom folder
2. Launch Visio. Select Tools > Options > Advanced > File Paths
3. In the textbox for the Stencils, type in the full path for the stencils folder.
(Make sure that you separate each path with a semi-colon)
4. For the templates too, type in the full path for the templates folder. Separate each path with a semi-colon
(Make sure that you separate each path with a semi-colon)
5. Click on Ok, again click on Ok
6. Close Visio and Launch Visio again

Thanks and regards,
