install fp2003 and 2002 fpse in XP virtual

Susan

Imagine this has been covered but I can't seem to locate it.

Have Win 7 Ultimate. Running XP in virtual mode on it. FP seems to install
fine and work in disk based mode. I start IIS...no problem. But when I
install server extensions 2002, they do not appear in services list and are
not functioning.

I revert back to FPSE 2000 and they appear in services list and function
about once. After that, using or creating a web on localhost seems to stop
when it asks for login and password....which I did not create. Have tried
various options to try to find login/password, but not luck. Would rather
use FPSE 2002 anyway.

Is there a way to get the 2002 server extensions up and running in XP
Virtual Mode?

Thanks

What version of FrontPage 2002 extensions do you have - 32bit or 64bit? Or
Windows 2003 version?
Windows 7 XP Mode requires the 32bit version for Windows XP or Windows 2000.

Have both the 64 bit and 32 bit. Am running Win 7 64 bit. Was not sure
which version I should use...tried both...had same problem either way. In
any case, was not sure if XP Pro emulation is 64 or 32 from a Win 7 64 bit
setup.

I think from what I have read that I have the 32 bit version downloaded long
ago from web. But just to be sure, is there still a site where I can get
the correct version of FPSE to work with XP virtual mode?

I'm gathering from you response/question that there is hope to get this
working.

Thanks for response

There is no legal download for 32bit FrontPage extensions for any operating
system, and hasn't been for about three years. XP mode on Windows 7 is
32bit only.

If you have the exe (fpse02_x86_ENG.exe) then open the Windows XP Virtual
machine, stop IIS.
Remove all traces of FP2000 extensions and FP2002 extensions.
Install the 2002 extensions by doubleclicking the .exe.
Start IIS and configure the extensions using the Control Panel ->
Administration Tools -> Microsoft Sharepoint Administrator

To enable DWTs to work correctly you will also need
officexp-kb813380.exe, and officexp-kb911831-client-ENu.exe which are
updates to the original install file (and which may not be available now).

I'll give it a try. I also have FPSE from the FP 2002 CD.

I notice there is a step I may have missed....I had not stopped the IIS
before installing FPSE.

Thanks for info.

Well, getting frustrating now. I removed and reinstalled XP virtual mode.
Installed the IIS that is contained in XPVM. Went to the Administrative
Tools and "stopped" the IIS Admin. Then installed fpse02_x86_ENG.exe.
Installation marked as successful. I installed the two security patches you
mentioned. I did note that no server extensions appeared in the
Administrative Tools or Services running. I restarted IIS. The only sign I
could see of the FPSE was shortcut to SharePoint Administrator. Clicking on
that said that I did not have sufficient privileges.

Any ideas about what I am missing?

Thanks

As a possible reason (if possible)
- when you created the XP virtual did you create a user account with a password and admin privileges
(not sure if XP virtual supports user accounts with passwords)

I have just installed extensions on IIS in Windows XP mode:

Open XP Mode - Start->All Programs->Windows Virtual PC->Windows XP Mode
When XP mode opens you will be logged in as an Administrator (default
setting)
Start->Control Panel->Add or Remove Progams
Click Windows Components
Click Internet Information Services and click Details button
Click FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions
Click OK, Click Next and follow screen prompts

Check these are installed using Control->Panel->Administrative Tools->Server
Extensions Administrator
Now install the FP2002 extensions
Double click on fpse02)x86_ENG.exe and follow the prompts.
Check these are installed by configuring them using
Control Panel->Administration Tools->Microsoft SharePoint Administrator
Click on Admistration link for the Default web site
Click "Change configuration settings"
Change email settings as required - see
http://www.rxs-enterprises.org/fp/b/smtp/
Change Tune For: dropdown to 100-1000 pages
Change Include File Cache and Image File Cache to 64 documents/images
respectively
Click Submit
Close the browser.
Install security patches in the order:
kb813880
kb911831
restart the virtual machine after each patch is installed.

Using the above I had no problems in installing the 2002 extensions.

I suggest uninstall FP2002 extensions, uninstall FP2000 extensions and start
over as above.

Stefan's question reminded me - when I set up the xpmode I chose (or
changed) the password to my choice, and I may have changed my status to
Administrator, but I think this is the default for the XPmode user. When I
installed and configured the extensions I was not asked for a password.

Check your account settings in
Control Panel->User Accounts

Thanks for replies from you and Ronx.

I will walk thru the steps Ronx provided this evening and give it another
try.

In answer to the issue you raised..first I installed XP virtual machine from
a Windows 7 user account. When I ran into the password problems with the
FP2000 extensions, I started over (by uninstalling the XPVM) and
reinstalling from a Win 7 Admin account. I did not see the XPVM asking
about priveleges. It did ask for a password. I used the same password as
the Win 7 accout. I think XPVM entered it's own user while installing
XPVM...something like "XP Virtual Mode" (not exactly sure...something like
that).

The FPSE 2000 contained in the XPVM seemed to install correctly...but as you
might have seen in this thread, they worked maybe once...meaning I could
establish one web at /localhost/... When I would close and reboot the XPVM,
I could not create another web or open the previous one because FP2003
wanted a login and password that I could not figure out and was not the ones
I had used in setting up the Win 7 or VM account. When I uninstalled and
reinstalled XPVM and tried to use either the FPSE 2002 from the FP2002 disk
or the FPSE file: fpse02_x86_ENG.exe the installation ended in the message
about a successful install. However, they server extensions did not appear
in the services list or in Administrative Tools of XPVM. Since Ron has
gotten his to work, I am obviously missing some detail. From Ron's previous
post, I repeated the procedure but "stopped" the IIS Admin in Admin
Tools/Services before installing FPSE...however, had the same results with
FPSE 2002.

I will sit down with Ron's instructions later and try to do exactly what he
did.

If there is something else that it appears that I have missed, please let me
know.

Thanks for your input and responses.

Thanks very much for your help. I think I have it working. As far as I can
figure out, my problem was the way I handled the FP2000 extensions...either
not installing them or uninstalling them prior to installing FP2002.
Thanks again!
