Install of Office 2000 fails, error 1804 (?), cannot access mso9.d

Good day, all
I've been attempting to reinstall Office 2000 Pro after a reformat and
reinstallation of Windows XP, something I've done successfully in the past a
number of times.
This time I get an error 1804, cannot access mso9.dll. This happens
consistently, even after carefully cleaning the CD. (I'm sorry, I don't have
the exact error text at the moment, I can get it another time if necessary)

Attempts to access this file on the CD with Windows Explorer also fail.
Can I repair my disk by copying a mso9.dll from somewhere else?
Is there some other similar workaround?
Can I get replacement disks? (I'm fairly sure this is an end user version,
which I've had for many years)
Or do I have to bite the bullet and get a used copy of Office 2000, or a new
copy of 2003?

Thanks in advance
David

Are you sure it is 1804?

I re-ran an installation, which I was unable to do when I first posted. the
entire error message is:

Error 1305. Error reading from file:
D:\Pfiles\MSOffice\Office\MS09.Dll. Verify that the file exists and that you
can access it.

I tried cleaning the CD as suggested in several knowledge base articles
found by searching on error+1305. No joy, and no change.

....Perhaps copying everything I can from the Office CD, getting everything I
cannot from somewhere else (an existing office installation?), then burning
all that onto a new CD?Thank you again
David
