Install of Office

I

Ian

I have a new HP laptop, running Window's XP home. I have
tried to install Microsoft Office, but am asked to insert
my Window's install disk because of Window's copy
protection. My computer, purchased at Circuit City, does
not have an install disk, only four boot disks. I have
tried inserting each one, but none of the four is
recognized as the required disk. Upon clicking cancel, I
recieve Error code 1933, and Office setup promtly exits.
How can I install Office?

I'm having the same problem with a Toshiba laptop running
Windows XP Home. I'm trying to load Office 2000 Pro.
Install gave me a Windows File Protection message which
told me to insert Windows XP Pro CDs. I have no Windows
CD, Home or Pro. Toshiba's CDs are rejected.

MS Knowledge Base 327851 says to run 'sfc /scannow' for
the error message I'm getting. But that just resulted in
another WFP message calling for the XP Pro CD.

I talked to Toshiba. They said they only support
software that they install. First they told me to
contact MS. Then they told me to look at KB 811260 and
change the registry. I read the KB. I don't see how
that could help as I still don't have the XP CD.

I'm guessing that I need a DLL from MS but don't know how
to identify or get what I need. I looked at the DLLs
that MS has for Office but saw nothing I could relate to
Office setup.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

This may be totally off the wall, but ..........

When a system manufacturer supplies a pre-installed Win XP, the whole
kit is loaded on the hard disk so you dont need it to add/remove
components. (You only need the recovery CD if you effectively lose the
hard disk.)

If you had a pre-installed Office XP, are you sure the whole kit is
not already on your hard disk? In which case when add/remove
components ask for the CD, all you'd have to do is point at the right
place on the hard disk.....

I'm not sure where that would be, but perhaps someone more informaed
than me could give some suggestions.

Cheers,
