install office 2000 on windows xp?

My old computer runs on windows 95 with office for
windows 95 that I updated to office 2000 by purchasing
the update version of office 2000. Is there a way to
install the office 2000 update on my new computer that
runs on windows xp? All I need to run is word 2000 and
excel 2000. If my office 2000 cannot be loaded onto my
xp, then is my cheapest bet to buy the student edition of
office 2000 for xp? Will there be a hangup in upgrading
that version to office 2003 when it rolls out? Thank you
for your help!

Hi Tom,

Office 2000 runs fine a Windows XP computer.
As you have the upgrade edition you'll need to
have the CD or diskettes for one of the upgrade
qualifiers listed here during the installation.

Normally the Office XP (2002) Student and Teacher's Edition
is not upgradable, however, purchasing an Office XP
product during the Office XP technology guarantee period,
15Aug-30Nov2003, allows you to obtain the matching 2003
edition for the cost of shipping and handling, including
updating to the 2003 Student & Teacher's Edition.
