Install Office 2000 Problem

J

Jack

I am running XP. I recently had to reinstall everything. I am trying to
install Office 2000. It runs very slowly but it starts to install. After I
get past entering the key code it looks like it is starting to install. I
then get an error message 1305, error reading from disk. I am quite certain
that the disk is fine. I also tried installing Office XP Pro. The CD is not
even recognized. What's going on and how do I install this program.

You may need to run a Registry cleaner to clear out any "stubs" that remained
after the un-installation - these can sometimes interfere with the
re-install.. there are several free Registry Cleaners available on the net -
personally, I use Ccleaner (..just run a search in Google - or whatever - for
it..)
- Ccleaner's "issues" function will fix any anomolies in the Registry..
after the clean out, re-try your re-installation..

Failures (on PC-A) with two different CDs which you proved are OK
(somewhere else, I presume, say on PC-B) - that leaves one obvious
conclusion: the CD-ROM drive on PC-A is hosed.
