Hi
My office is still using officeXP and is very unlikely to upgrade in near future.
I would like to know if it is possible to install only office 2003 MODI without upgrading any other office application

Although it may seem unworthy to buy a license for only one component..

Thanks

I don't know about the licensing (you should contact your
company's MS licensing rep). The MODI driver's absence
from the SP1 preview I think is an oversight and it will
return when SP1 ships later this summer.

It is technically possible to do so. From my vague
memory:
- Select a custom installation
- Deselect all of the Office Applications and select the
option to "Advanced Customization of Options"
- At the top level of the product tree on the next
screen, select all to be Not Installed. then drill down
into "Office Tools" and select the MODI tools.

Isn't modi installed with office xp?

I don't think it's the same required version (although I'll probably be
proven wrong).

On my Work Tablet, I'm running the full (i.e. all components installed)
version of Office XP Pro. I recently installed only the MODI component
from Office 2003 (we have Software Assurance even though we haven't
migrated officially yet, so this is legal ;) and only then did the Insert
As Image thingy in OneNote SP1 work.

I'll concede that it's not conclusive or a representative sample ;)

I have to agree that you are correct
Only MODI in office 2003 had a "writer print driver" feature.

Thanks Erik Sojka for further explanation. Now i am more positive to purchase a license for Office 2003 knowing that it is possible to do so. It is shame that microsoft did not aware of this. Or at least, they didn't care to provide solution to officeXP users

You're welcome.

I wouldn't say that MS didn't care; It's just a newer feature in a newer
version of Office.

I failed to install MODI component alone on PC without changing existing officeXP component
Perhaps someone can guide me to install the component without using office installation wizard ??
