Tried it too, came up with eror 0x80070643 several times, whatever I tried
of the published solutions didn't do the trick.
(renaming microsoft.public.windowsupdate, the OSE thing, registering some
things, all failed to solve the prob...)

Also Outlook spam filter update gave the same error.

Uninstalled Office, Frontpage, and some weird ".NET" thing (didn't know what
it was to be used for)
Did uninstallation through "add/remove progs", since uninstall through
Office setup didn't finsh.

After reinstall of Office and Frontpage, all updating worked well.

Weird.......

Thank you very much, your information is appreciated.
I am fearful to get myself completely disabled by going places that I don't
understand much about. I am opting to leave Office 2003 pack 2 alone for the
time being.I would come back to finish the install some time later. In a few
weeks.
Thank you again.

Go to Start, run, type in services.msc.

Look at BITS. Is it running? If not start it?
If you can't start it, what is the error message?

Google the error message

BITS = Background Intelligent Transfer Services.
