install Office 2003 SP1 over Office XP?

When I check for Office XP updates, I am recommended to download and install
Office 2003 SP1. This seems odd to me. Should I do this?

Hi Spobo,

Check in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel.
Are there any Microsoft Office System 2003 product family
members listed there (Outlook, Onenote, Excel, Word, Powerpoint,
Publisher, Frontpage, Access) ?

If so, then you can install the Office 2003 update. Each standalone
app also contains core files of the Office System 2003
packages.

Hello Bob Buckland,
Thank you for your reply. I have no Office 2003 items installed. But now I
think it must have been a Microsoft error that I received the advice to
install Office 2003 SP1. I received this advice during the last 2 days only.
Not before and now it has suddenly stopped again advising me to do so.
Thanks anyway,
spobo
