Install Office97 on WinXP stalls

I am trying to re-install Office 97 Professional on my pc
which is running Win XP Pro. The install/setup does not
complete and gives me the error message "olemsg.dll was
unable to register itself in the system registry." I
found MS Knowledge Base Article - 179783 and did what I
could of the options provided. However, I still have not
been able to complete the install. Can anyone give me a
way to get this on my pc with a complete install (I did
not try to install sans Outlook as the article suggested.
I need Outlook.)

Thanks.

Greetings,
For what it's worth, my problem is similar: I have
Office97 installed fine, and have been working with it
for months since upgrading to WinXP Pro. It has however,
given me duplicate file problems (saying a file is
already open when I first open it after logging on). So
I tried to uninstall, and have been blocked by the
existence of "shared file" Windows Messaging (aka
Exchange32). I try to remove (or not) said file, and the
uninstall hangs. Perhaps there is something to the
exclusion of Outlook for those who don't need it. Having
used both Outlook and OExpress, I find the latter
functional for home use and prefer the former for work.
Anyhow, thanks for pointing me towards the KB article.
Kento.
