Install on Clustered Project Server boxes ?

A

Adrian

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone out there can provide some advice on the specific
steps (and things to watch out for) in configuring an EPM enviroment where
there is a clustered front end (running Project Server - 3 boxes, designed
for failover) connecting to a SQL Server 2000 backend cluster ?

I have looked through the configuration and installation guides and I'm
still not clear on the specific steps - can anyone help ? or at least tell
me what the high level steps migh tbe to ensure a successful configuration ?

Thanks.

Jeff

Hi Adrian

For complete resilience you'd be better off with a 6 server configuration:-

Two front-end servers PWA/WSS

Two application servers running Views Processing and Session Manager

Two SQL Servers (clustered). Note SQL2000 does not support Analysis
Services in a cluster, you will need to upgrade to SQL2005 for that. Another
benefit of upgrading to SQL2005 is that you can cluster two nodes with
standard edition.

Basically,

Install the SQL Cluster.

Install the application servers (run project server setup but only install
views processing servers and session managers)

Create a NLB cluster for two web front end servers.

Install WSS in a Farm config.

Install Project Server Front-End only on web servers. Update registry so
they are aware of both VP servers.

The installation guide in the resource kit gives a very descriptive process
for doing this.
