install problem - "another user"

C

cfmiles

I recently purchased my first Macintosh and, with it, a copy of
Microsoft's Office X. The install of Office went smoothly, except that
everytime I try to start Excel I get the following message: "Microsoft
Excell is being modified by another user. Open as read-only?" (All
other Office applications appear to be runing correctly.)

I have two options, Cancel or OK: If I select 'Cancel' the excel
startup process aborts. If I select 'OK', I get the same error message
infinitum.

I am the only "user" of my machine. It is brand new. I have tried a
restart and a clen install to no avial.

Has anyone seen this before?

Try the disk utility and repair permissions.
