Install problem w/SQL Server Desktop Engine when installing BCM up

I have attempted to install the BCM update twice and each time the
installation gets hung up at the SQL piece. The last info that appears states
"please wait while Windows configures Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine".
The progress bar gets almost to the end, saying 6 seconds remaining and stays
there. I've left it running as long as 30 minutes and it won't move beyond
this point. Please help. Thx.

try checking for sql srvices in services.msc
try installing a standalone installation of msde and check

I had this problem too. I restarted the machine and installed BCM first
thing after boot and then it went through.
