install problem with Office 2000 disk two publisher

A

Al

When trying to install disk two of Office 2000 I receive
many Error 1305 reading from file:
the exact errors range from background clip art to fonts
to dll files and in some cases they can be ignored and in
others they can be deselected for install by using a
custom installation but the some can not be avoided at
all it seems and so you either endlessly retry or cancel
the instal?
Ok so im really stuck this time.
Thanks,
Al

*** Problem Description ***
Installing Office 2000 Professional Disk 2 from original
media fails with the
following error messages:

Error 2349 "Copy resumed with different info"
Error 1305 "Error reading from file: <filename>"

NOTE:
Installing original media on another system works.
Attempting to install from
another cdrom drive, disabling DMA, installing from
another set of original media,
installing from a shared cd-rom drive across the network,
creating a flat,
installing in Safe Mode, and updating the Windows
Installer to 2.0 do not resolve the issue.

Method #1:
1. Clean the cd with warm water and soft cloth

Method #2:
1. Create a flat on another system on the network
2. Map a network drive path over to the shared flat folder
3. Install from the shared flat

Method #3:
1. Have customer burn a copy of the original media
2. Install from the burned media

NOTE: Burned media is typically not supported except
in a corporate
environment. However, the method of creating a burned cd
will allow the files to
decompress and copy across the disk, thereby allowing the
reading of the disk to
proceed more freely. This has been witnessed in several
cases where the burned
media the customer created would install without error
when the original Microsoft
media errors out to the compression of the cab files.

Apologies for jumping in the thread.
Am going to try this myself but if anyone has more specific handle to
the following problem your input would be appreciated.:

This was originally posted to microsoft.public.office:

Tried installing CD2 of Office 2000 professional (an OEM disc) over
Office Premier to get Publisher on a Win98 ed2 machine. Installation
just grinds to halt with no warning of any sort on CD2. CD1 is OK.

Tried too on this Win XP machine. Installation of CD2 grinds to halt
with warning 2349. Trying to customise installation for just Publisher
ends up with a multitude of warnings about not reading files. The first
one I came across and which crops up a lot is FPEXT.MSG and there is
another one relating to RPTWB.XLT.

When I try to make a copy to a hard disc of installation disc 2 there is
a warning about a non cyclic check for a file.

Have looked up Microsoft support articles 236437 and 329386 which relate
to Internal Errors 2349, 2341, 2355 (only the first of which I have
encountered on the WinXP trial installation) which do not appear
relevant to the problems here.

If you have come across anything that relates to this problem I would be
very grateful for a pointer.
