Install PS 2007 on 2 servers (follow-up)

Robert

Hi,
Some days ago my newbie's question was :
When installing Project Server 2007 with a configuration of two servers :
* SQL Server + Analysis Services on Server A
* Project Server 2007 on Server B
do we have to install IIS on both servers ?
================
The answer was :
IIS would only be required on server B because you will be
configuring WSS for PWA and team workspaces.
================
Question 2:
Don't we need to install IIS on Server A to create a new Web site for SQL
Reporting Services ?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Robert,

the answer to your question is ...... maybe, maybe not :)

Firstly, depening on the version of SQL you are running. If you run SQL 2008
you will not need IIS since SQL has its own Internet Service that reporting
services uses.

If you use SQL 2005 generally you can still install Reporting Services on
Server B and only run one IIS. the negative effect is that you will need to
buy an extra SQL license for this, since Reporting Services doesnt run on the
same box then SQL.

If however you dont want to pay for extra license and you have SQL 2005 (or
earlier) than the answer to your question would be yes. You would need to
isntall Reporting Services on the SQL box and also use IIS. ( By the way that
is the reason why SQL 08 has its own web service now, so that you dont need
to use IIS on the DB server since many organisations dont like doing that).

Anyway, I hope that answers your question.

One more question Marc,

You said: "so that you dont need to use IIS on the DB server since many
organisations dont like doing that".
Is there any technical reasons why many organisations dont like doing that :
installing IIS on the DB server?
Thanks again,

Robert
