Install Runtime 2002 Without Package?

Tim

Is there some other way to install Access 2002 runtime besides with a package
crated with XP Office Developer (or some other packager). That is, can I
obtain an install CD (or file) to simply install Access 2002 runtime (without
installaing a packaged custom Access application too)?

I develop Access 2002 applications for a mid-sized company. The previous
developer had created a package using Office XP Developer. This package no
longer works on machines with XP SP2. This is a known bug, with a known
solution. However, I would need to aquire and install the packaing software.
My users are all in-house. IT sets up each workstation, and my applications
do not use the registry. Also we use network scripts to distribute the MDEs.
Therefore, we don't really need an install package, just a simple
installation of Access 2002 runtime.

I suspect I will need to use a packager to install the runtime. Besides the
cost, I have heard that Office XP Developer is cranky when it comes to
creating packages, so I would hope to avoid it. Anyone know about this?

You need Office Developer to distribute Access Runtime, Full Stop. This is for
a license to distribute it, never mind if the packager is cranky or not.

Technically, it does not really matter "how" you install (Package & Deployment
Wizard, 3rd Party installers, install Runtime as a separate step which you can
do anyway).

Some people (most people!) (who use 3rd Party installers) use hardly anything
out of Office Developer. But they need it for the Runtime license, even with a
3rd Party installer.

The cost (of Developer) is nothing, considering the client PC's don't need to
each purchase full Access, what would THAT cost?

Tim,

I am sorry, this is not a solution to your problem, but I am hoping you can
help me out. You mention "This package no longer works on machines with XP
SP2. This is a known bug, with a known solution." I cannot find that "known
solution" anywhere. Can you help me out ? (and a few others on TechNet that
are looking for that solution)

How do you fix that problem?

Thanks. MaB

Tim,

That's great. Thanks! I'll post it elsewhere as well.

I was considering your problem. Why not use Wyse Installer to deploy the
necessary files on the user workstations. Then you need only deploy your
..MDEs (which is what I think you want to do). The KB you refered me to below
seems to lists all the required installation files in "C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office Developer\Packaging Wizard\ospfilelist.txt" and where
they are supposed to go.

I hope this helps.
