Install sql server client tools for .adp

i have an access ADP connecting to a SQL Server 2000
database via a TCP/IP connection using a specified IP
address and port number. However, in order to make an
alias that points to this address so that you can connect
with the access project, it seems like you are limited to
installing the SQL Server Client Network Utility and
making an alias with that tool first.

Is there any way around installing this utility and
connecting to the database without it? And, if it is
necessary to install it, is there an efficient way to
install it in the background while the access runtime is
being installed?

thanks for all your help,
armen
