Install XP Office upgrade on new computer

When I got my old computer it came with Office 98. I have
since upgraded to Office XP. Now I am getting a new
computer and want to install Office XP. Can I use the
upgrade version or do I have to buy the new user version?
I still have my 98 cd.

Actually, I looked at the disc last night. It's Office
97. So what do I need to do?

Have your Office 97 CDs handy when you begin installing the Office XP
Upgrade to your new computer. Initially, Office XP will tell you that it
cannot find a qualifying product on your computer and ask you to indicate
where it is. At that point, remove the XP media from the CD-ROM drive and
insert your Office 97 CD. The XP Installer will proceed and then prompt you
to re-insert the XP media.

After installation of Office XP is complete, you will need to Activate the
product. Initially, you will be advised that the product has already been
installed, so you will need to Activate by Phone and explain to the MS
technician that you are re-installing on a new computer. It takes about 5
mins. or so.

It is very important to keep your Office 97 CDs with your XP CDs, since they
are now a permanent part of your license by virtue of having used the XP
Upgrade.

Last, if both your old and new computers are both desktops (or both are
laptops), you will need to uninstall Office XP from your old computer.
