Installation almost completes then fails

O

Omar

We were using a trial version of Project Server 2003 and it has now expired.
So when users try to access PWA, they are told to contact server
administrator to upgrade the version.

So when I tried to install the full version, the trial version was
uninstalled. I went through the usual installation steps and tried to install
using an existing database. The installation seems to be going well and I can
see the directories being created. However, when it reaches the end, it
suddenly rolls back and says that

"Installation ended prematurely because of an error."

There are no meaningful error messages in the Event logs to guide me on
what’s the problem. It only has Event ID 11078 and a description that said
the "Installation Operation Failed".

Can anyone help me here?

I have even tried to install using a fresh database but the error still
comes up. I tried to select the options to Enter WSS information later, to
see if the error is because of WSS, but the error still comes. Anyone can
help?

When using the trial version, there were no problems. The OS is Windows
Server 2003, and SQL Server 2000.

We installed Project Server on one box. SQL server is on another box, and
Windows Sharepoint Services is on another box as well. I came across an
article that asked to modify the registry, but it was relating to Windows
2000 and Windows NT 4.0.

It seems like many people have this problem but there is no solution yet? I
saw another article at
http://groups.google.com/group/micr...y+because+of+an+error&rnum=5#00c69788f6ddd406

But I have no idea how to use the msdtc. Any more detailed explanation? Any
other recommendation? Please provide all the possible solutions because I
will not have internet access while at the server.

Omar

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. However, I cannot try your suggestion now as I have
already resolved the issue by following some steps from Microsoft Support
staff. For some reason, the MSDTC was disabled and the domain account that
was used for installation had been locked. I fixed both at the same time and
retired, and it worked, so am not sure precisely which one solved it :)

Anyway, thanks and I will keep this for futre use (hopefully I wont need it!
:D)

Regards,
Omar
