Installation Error - ASYCFILT.DLL is the wrong file version

When trying to install MS Project Standard version 2002,
I'm told I need ASYCFILT.DLL version 2.40.4277.1 The
software won't complete the istall without this file
version.

My file (ASYCFILT.DLL) version is 2.40.4275.1 on
Windows '98 SE. Can I download the upgraded file version
(If so, from where)? The new software (MS Project) says
it's compatible with Windows '98, but the error message
mentioned XP and Office disks for the newer file version.
I don't wish to upgrade, so can this error be overcome
otherwise?

This is an Academic Edition so Microsoft is not giving any
free istallation support.

Appreciate any help.

What is the service pack level on the machine? Typically the latest service
pack fixes issues like this.
