Installation Error -- Project Server 2003

J

Jim Moon

Hello!

At the "Enter database server information" screen:

Selected "Create a new database".

For "Database server:" entered SQL Server instance name. Got the error "The
server you entered is not responding. Check that the name is valid and try
again."
Resides on same machine onto which I'm installing Project Server, so tried
"local" and "(local)".
Same error message ensued, no matter what.

I have checked the SQL Server user account time and time again.

I get nothing but that same error.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Jim,

Make sure your SQL server is up. If it is use the machine name as the name of the SQL server

Jim:

If you're using a "Named Instance" of SQL, then the server name must be
entered in the format "<server_name>\<instance_name>" without the quotes.
The server must be configured to support TCP/IP transport.

Thanks for your help guys.

It was a SQL Server setting of authentication type that was hanging me up.

Gary, would you look at my posting "How to Set Up Windows Authentication",
