Installation failed : missing core and data access components

A

Allen

I am running windows 98 and I got this error.

Microsoft Office Xp requires newer windows system
components not detected on your computer. To install
Office, setup must update your system to minimum required
level of functionality including: Core System and Data
Access components

Is there anyway that i can run Office XP without
upgrading 98??

Hi Allen -

If one or more of the required system files needs to be updated, the system
files update automatically starts. The installation of the Office program
files cannot occur until the system files are updated. If you bypass
Setup.exe by double-clicking the .msi file for Office, the system files are
not updated. You definitely need to allow the system update to run to
install Office XP - however, it is only updating necessary files, and not
necessarily Windows 98 itself.

See the following article for more information on this.

286399 OFFXP: Description of the System Files Update

Hope that helps!
