Installation local or Domain accounts..

Mark Byington

There are several accounts that need to be set up to install Project Server
and Windows SharePoint Services. Is it OK to set up one account only and add
it everywhere it is required for installation...project server, WSS, SQL
server, etc.???
Seems like it'd make life a lot easier...

Sure thing as long as the account has all of the characteristics required by
all roles, but you know that this is less secure. you can use a local
machine account if you're installing everything on one box. For multi-box
deployments, Domain accounts are the way to go.

Thanks...I thought as much, but it's nice to get re-assurance.

Since we're behind a security layered firewall, and don't share EPM with 3rd
parties, i.e. all users are 'in-house', security isn't as much of an issue as
it might be in other organizations.

Thanks again..

Gary,

If I set up only one account, which it sounds like I cannot if I am running
multiple servers, how do I then use the Com+ tool to reset AS and WSS? It
asks for two seperate service accounts.

Also, was is the requirement then around SQL SA level accounts. My
understanding was that this permission level was only needed during the
initial creation of the database. What, then, SQL account with SA level
privledge, is required after installation?

Thanks!

Eleanor,

You have a domain user account used for WSS & olap provided the account has
the needed permissions.
SA Account would be needed when you restore databases. You will be asked to
provide the sa account p& password to add the content databse after a restore.
