installation of Microsoft Office X exceeds the number of installations permitted

I was running the same version of Microsoft Office 2004 on two iBook
G4s, which my wife and I were using at the same time through a wireless
network at home. We ran into the problem that when we were both
online, we couldn't both use Microsoft Office. I therefore bought a
new version of Office, and installed it on my wife's iBook, after
running Remove Office. I also ran Remove Office on my machine and
reinstalled my version of Office. If I call up any of the Office
software, and view the "About" option, I get two clearly different
product ID numbers.

Having done all this, however, I find I am still getting the error
message "This installation of Microsoft Office X exceeds the number of
installations permitted by the license agreement."

Now what do I do?

You're getting the "Microsoft Office X" message with Office2004? Hmmm...

In any case, (1) the PID numbers are, IIRC, specific to the machine as
well as the CD key, and (2) you can change PIDs right using this
technique:

That was a fantastic fix! As I mentioned, I had already run Remove
Office twice on both machines, and then reinstalled, but somehow that
didn't change the product key number. Your fix did. Thanks.
