Installation of Microsoft XP SP3 unsuccessful

Microsoft Office Update said I needed Office XP Service Pack 3. This was
after I downloaded Office XP 2002.
I agreed to the download and got a message saying download was unsuccessful
but Microsoft Office Update site now says:

REQUIRED UPDATES
Your Office products are up-to-date!
See list of products supported by Office Update

Office XP Service Pack 3 (English version)

Office Update still says I need to update other updates but insists I must
update Office XP Service pack 3 first even though it appears to have
downloaded.

I have a feeling my computer may have older version of Outlook Express and
Frontpage but they are not listed when I check control panel / add / remove
programs. (I did see some folders under C drive under program files but was
unable to delete them as got message:

'Cannot delete Outlook Express: It is being used by another person or
program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again'

Can anyone help me in simple terms as I am a computer novice?
Thanks,
Sean
